11th Street Bungalow
1,870 square feet / 3 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms
An early thread in the fabric of its neighborhood, 11th Street Bungalow is important. Important because it belongs to one of Charlottesville’s oldest and most historically significant neighborhoods. Important because it was built in 1930 by a man whose family lived in it until they could no longer keep up with the requirements of an almost-ninety-year-old house. We were the first owners of the property that didn’t share the same blood lineage as it’s previous owners. This, too, was important. We strived to restore the house to its former beauty and character, respecting the history of the house, its neighborhood, and the family that built it and loved it for so long. Subtle, modern interventions and materials were incorporated to create necessary dialog between old and new and nods to the house’s history and original architectural details are found throughout. The result, we hope, will help keep 11th Street Bungalow important to its future families, its neighborhood, and its city.
